The Importance of Rotating Your Tires

Believe it or not, tires play one of the most important roles in how your vehicle drives. They keep you safe in hazardous conditions, help your car handle windy roads, and even save you money in fuel economy. We all know good tires aren’t cheap, so how do we keep our tires in the best shape possible? Tire rotation!

How does tire rotation affect my vehicle?

Tire rotation is essential to keep the tread on your tires wearing as evenly as possible. Many components come into play that could affect the wear pattern of your tires, like tire pressure or your alignment.  Tire rotations distribute tire wear by moving each wheel to the opposite corner of the car.  This process works by preventing each tire from excessively wearing down on one side. Under or over-inflating your tires could also cause excessive wear on the sidewalls of the tire or cause them to wear unevenly down the middle. Uneven tire wear could also be due to an untrue alignment from the impact of potholes or speed bumps.  This causes your wheels to not point completely straight.

How can I avoid tire issues?

First, you can check your tires when you stop to refill your gas tank. Check the tire pressure sticker in the driver’s door jam and inflate them accordingly. Drastic changes in temperature can affect tire pressure so it’s especially important as the seasons change to keep an eye on tire wear. Second, keep an eye out for road hazards that could cause damage. Finally, schedule regular tire rotation! This will ensure even tire wear and your technician will be able to communicate any unusual wear or damage to help prolong the life of your tires. Several of our vehicle care packages include tire rotation with your oil change service.
